Airport Work to Temporarily Re-route Entrance

FOR IMMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 19, 2010 – Entry into The Eastern Iowa Airport will be briefly re-routed as work continues on a project to upgrade the airport’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC).

Signs will be posted to direct customers to 18th Street where there will be an entrance to the airport’s terminal drive, long-term and short-term parking lots.

The traffic re-routing will be from midnight to 3:30 a.m. on Mon., March 22* and Thurs., March 25.

The $500,000 HVAC project replaces the old system with a new, more efficient one that is part of the airport’s ongoing green initiatives. An 85-foot crane will be used to place new rooftop cooling units onto the terminal.

Airport Director of Operations Sara Mau said extensive planning was done to ensure minimal disruption for the airport’s customers.

“We wanted to find a way to have the least impact on the airport’s overall operation,” she said. “All the work will be done overnight, after the final flight arrival and departure.” she said.

In addition, during that time period the restrooms in the terminal’s main lobby will be closed.

The HVAC project is just one part of The Eastern Iowa Airport’s $85M capital improvement plan. Other projects you will soon see happening in the terminal: $345,000 remodeling of the airport restaurant and gift shop, $511,000 relocation of all Transportation Security Administration offices; and $365,000 window improvements along C Concourse.

The airport’s main project this year – a $46 million reconstruction of the airport’s primary runway - begins in June.

*If work on the first night is not completed, the entrance may be closed midnight to 3:30 a.m., March 23.
