Airport to Receive $625,000 Federal Grant FOR IMMMEDIATE RELEASE June 22, 2010 WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley announced today the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded seven grants totaling $2,351,908 to Iowa airports. “This funding is to increase the safety and efficiency of these airports, as well as help provide important economic development opportunities in these communities,” Grassley said. The Eastern Iowa Airport will receive a $625,000 grant for an airport geographic information system study. The study will use a state-of-the-art mapping system to update the airport's layout plan (ALP). It will also provide detailed mapping of the airfield and an electronic ALP. Other towns receiving FAA grants are: • Boone Municipal Airport will receive $500,329 for apron rehabilitation Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
