Airport Posts Record October

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dec. 4, 2006 – The Eastern Iowa Airport has posted a record October for total passengers and Airport Director Dan Mann said the calendar year record looks to be broken once again.

The total number of passengers who flew in and out The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) in October was 88,016, or a 1.2 percent increase over the previous record set in October 2005.

Additionally, when comparing passenger numbers for the time period Jan. 1 – Oct. 31 since 2000, the Airport is on track to breaking that record as well, Mann said. The total number of passengers using the Airport for that time period in 2006 is 851,674. That is 1.4 percent more than in 2005, when the Airport broke its calendar year record, posting more than 1,004,265 total passengers.

Mann said CID’s record-setting pace is not the norm for similar airports nationwide. He said he is happy to see that Eastern Iowans are showing their preference by using The Eastern Iowa Airport.

“Every chance we get we are trying to help people understand that by using this Airport more, it increases our opportunities to enhance air service, with new flights, new destinations and upgraded aircraft,” he said.

Competition for air travelers is fierce, Mann said. But, the fact CID offers more flights than any airport in Eastern Iowa or western Illinois is a key for people when choosing what airport to use.

With record-breaking numbers like these, we will continue to be the No. 1 airport in the area and airlines do notice when passenger use increases,” he said. “Airlines want to serve an area that has a strong economy with a vibrant community and Eastern Iowa has that and more.”
